German A2 grammar test

13 short daily tests covering all of A2 grammar: the Perfekt, Präteritum, Dativ, two-way prepositions, reflexive verbs, conjunctions, comparative and superlative, and subordinate clauses. Every answer comes with a one-line explanation, so each mistake teaches you the rule.

13 daily tests 520 tasks with answers An explanation for every answer Free, no sign-up

How the test works

Each day checks three grammar topics with 40 small tasks. Part A is multiple choice: pick a, b or c. Part B is a classic gap fill: you get a box of words and type each one into a sentence in its correct form, exactly like in a German course workbook.

You see the answer and a short explanation immediately after every task, not at the end. Wrong answers are the most valuable ones: the explanation tells you the rule in one line, and the next similar task lets you apply it right away.

The 32 point pass mark comes from the printed version of this test booklet. It is strict on purpose: at 80 percent you genuinely own the grammar of that day instead of half-knowing it.

What each day covers

Every test has 20 multiple choice tasks (part A) and 20 fill in the blank tasks (part B). Take a day's test after learning its grammar topics; with 32 of 40 points you are ready for the next day.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official A2 exam?

No. It is a free practice test that covers the grammar of level A2. For an official certificate you need an accredited exam such as Goethe-Institut, telc or ÖSD; this test is great preparation for the grammar parts of those exams.

In which order should I take the days?

Day 1 to day 13, in order. The days follow the grammar sequence of the German with Levels A2 course, and later days quietly reuse the rules from earlier ones.

What if I fail a day?

Read the explanations you got during the test, review the day's topics and retake it. Only your best score is saved, so a bad run never hurts you.

Should I finish A1 first?

Yes. The A2 tests assume all of A1 grammar. If you are not sure where you stand, take the free German level test first, or run through a few A1 days as a warm-up.
